Goodbye, Substack!
Hello, Patreon.
I really, really appreciate the support I’ve gotten on Substack so far. I wasn’t sure anyone would be interested in reading my thoughts on games, so it’s been gratifying to find that yes, in fact, people are into that.
Now it’s time to see if that can translate into Patreon. I’ve decided to move over there, and I’m moving to a paid model. Some posts will probably stay free, like the One Shot Monthly, but this gives me the chance to offer up some content I wouldn’t be able to otherwise, such as tools I use to make my games, behind the scenes stuff, and the occasional small game. Big games like Velvet Glove and In the Pines (formerly Evergreen) will still be released digitally in places like Drivethrurpg, but this model gives me some flexibility, and (hopefully) some cash.
I’m hoping to develop a sustainable practice of game design and art making, and I’m inviting you along. I truly believe that the best way to support women in the industry is with money. I’d like to cover my monthly expenses and maybe even pay myself a little. There are too few female voices in the tabletop role playing game industry, and a Patreon seems like the best way forward for me right now.
In the future I’m hoping to add online classes on game design as well as opportunities to game with me. Game design classes would cover a variety of topics and would include some guest lecturers. ;) Some topics may include: general game design, PbtA game design, graphic design, playtesting, horror, running games, and topics suggested by people like you.
You can find my Patreon here, and thank you in advance for checking it out. Please share it as well! I will be taking down this Substack, and you may notice some of the posts you’ve read here are paid only over on Patreon. You can still sign up for a free membership if you’d like to continue reading, and I hope you do!
The first new post you’ll see over there contains play materials for In the Pines. Please check them out, and if you run or play it, let me know! I’d love to hear about your experience with the dark forest.
I’m looking forward to sharing more of my games and thoughts with you. Thanks!
